I am a third-year PhD student in the Molecular Genetics and Cell Biology - Anatomy Teaching Track program, housed within the Department of Genetics, Cell Biology, and Anatomy at UNMC. My bench research focuses on cell signaling pathways, using the pancreas and pancreatic cancer as a model system to investigate key regulatory mechanisms. While I enjoy my benchwork, my true passion lies in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students.
My long-term goal is to join an undergraduate anatomy program and help it reach its full potential. I am especially drawn to working with undergraduates because of the pivotal stage they are in academically and professionally. I believe teaching anatomy is more than just sharing knowledge, it is about inspiring curiosity, fostering critical thinking, and providing mentorship that helps students navigate their future careers. To prepare for this role, I am working hard to gain profeciency in three key areas: gross anatomy, histology, and embryology. These disciplines are essential to teaching anatomy effectively, and I am committed to mastering them through coursework, hands-on teaching experiences, and continuous professional development.
Outside of my academic and professional pursuits, I love to travel and explore with my husband. Whether we are hiking through the mountains or discovering new places, I find joy in the adventure and opportunity to experience the world. This love for exploration also shapes my approach to teaching. I encourage students to be curious, ask questions, and embrace learning as an ongoing journey.
