Dr. Kathy K. H. Svoboda is from a small town in western Nebraska. Kathy was the first person in her family and hometown, Hershey to pursue graduate education. Kathy joined the University of Nebraska Medical Center Anatomy Department in 1980 to work with Drs. K. Sue O’Shea and Ken Metcalf for a Ph.D. (1982). Dr. Elizabeth D. Hay invited Kathy to join her laboratory at Harvard Medical School as a postdoctoral fellow. Dr. Svoboda moved to Boston to work with Dr. Hay’s group for over 5 years. She also worked with Dr. Bjorn Olsen’s group.
Dr. Svoboda joined the Anatomy and Neurobiology Department at Boston University School of Medicine as an assistant professor in 1987. She was the Co-director of the confocal microscopy facility and was promoted to associate professor in 1994. Dr. Svoboda has had adjunct positions in Ophthalmology Departments at Boston University School of Medicine and the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical School.
Dr. Svoboda moved to Dallas in 1998 to join Baylor College of Dentistry. She was promoted to professor with tenure in 2001 and then Regents Professor in 2009.
Dr. Svoboda joined AAA as a graduate student. She continued as a student and postdoctoral member. She has held many positions in AAA:
