Jeremy J. Grachan, Ph.D., is an assistant professor in the Office of Education and Department of Medicine at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School (NJMS) in Newark, New Jersey. He earned both his Masters in Anatomy and PhD in Anatomy from The Ohio State University. At NJMS, he teaches in multiple professional programs, including undergraduate and graduate medical education, as well as the Doctor of Dental Medicine, and Doctor of Physical Therapy Programs. Additionally, he serves as the Course Director for the Neurology and Psychiatry Course of the preclerkship medical curriculum. Dr. Grachan also teaches in some of the pathway programs for students in middle school through undergraduate. Alongside these responsibilities, Dr. Grachan is the co-faculty lead for the Distinction in Medical Education, the Teaching Assistants in Medical Education, and Teaching Abdominal Sonography Teaching Assistant programs at NJMS. Dr. Grachan has won various awards while at NJMS, including a Golden Apple for excellence in teaching. Outside of these roles, he is an active member of the American Association for Anatomy and Human Anatomy and Physiology Society. One of his favorite roles is being an active mentor for medical students interested in medical education research. His research focuses on developing creative ways to teach anatomy to various student populations through multiple pedagogical styles, including the integration of games, escape rooms, and through fun examples (e.g., superheroes). He also does research related to anatomy outreach and pathway programs, as well as anatomical donor ethics.
