Dr. Brittany Hufft-Martinez is a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Irfan Saadi's lab at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC), focusing on how maternal nutrient changes can rescue cleft palate during development. Supported by fellowships like the Biomedical Research Training Program Fellowship, K-INBRE Post-doctoral Fellowship, and CTSA-TL1 post-doctoral fellowship, her work has been presented at numerous conferences. Passionate about mentoring, she founded a partnership between KUMC and her alma mater, Rockhurst University, providing 73 undergraduates with research experience in fields such as Alzheimer’s, birth defects, and cancer. This initiative has earned awards like the 2023 Dorothy Knoll Outstanding Student Leadership Award. As a co-founder of the STEM Unity Alliance KC, she creates opportunities for undergraduates to engage in research at institutions like KUMC and Children’s Mercy. Additionally, Dr. Hufft-Martinez teaches cadaver anatomy to medical students at KUMC. With a strong interest in gene-environment interactions in developmental biology, she aspires to pursue a career in translational research focused on birth defects and developmental diseases.
