Graduate Research Assistant
Pennsylvania State College of Medicine
Hummelstown, Pennsylvania, United States
My name is Anthony Rahawi and I am a 3rd year anatomy PhD candidate at the Penn State College of Medicine. Prior to attending Penn State, I received my BS in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior at the University of California, Davis in 2017. I taught for 3 years as a laboratory aide and teaching assistant in an undergraduate-level anatomy prosection course, which helped me foster my love for anatomy and education. I then obtained my MS in Appied Anatomy at Case Western Reserve University in 2022. During my time at Case Western, I performed research in the implementation of mixed-reality anatomy programs into physician assistant gross anatomy courses and taught gross anatomy at the graduate level, for which I was awarded the Herbert S. Steuer Memorial Outstanding Anatomy Educator Award.
At Penn State, I have taught anatomy and embryology to a multitude of learners, including medical students, physician assistant students, graduate students, neurology residents, physical medicine & rehabilitation residents. As an instructor, I have provided lectures, guided students in the cadaver lab, developed online learning resources, and created essay prompts, multiple-choice exams, and laboratory practicals. Along with my teaching responsibilities, I act as a graduate research assistant in Dr. Julio Fernandez-Mendoza's lab where I analyze the longitudinal and cross-sectional associations between physiologic measures of sleep depth and cardiac autonomic modulation in youths. Upon graduating in 2026, I plan to establish a career as an anatomy educator and continue to perform educational research.
