I began my academic career at the University of California, Davis where I majored in Evolutionary Anthropology. This experience inspired an interest in human anatomy and osteology through taking those courses as well as working in the osteology museum that was housed on the UCD campus. After my time at Davis and reflecting on my interests, I realized that teaching anatomy and osteology was something I could see myself doing for a career. This led me to move to New Orleans and pursue my Master of Science at Tulane University School of Medicine. Through that program, I became interested in educational research. I worked in biomedical research for several years where I was able to hone my histology skills through epithelial research. I began teaching at Delgado Community College in New Orleans, where I gathered extensive teaching experience. This role taught me a lot about diverse student populations and teaching techniques, leading me to focus on student-centered teaching. This interest is apparent in my research interests and has carried with me to my current role at Louisiana State University Health Science Center, New Orleans. I have also continued my educational pursuits through the Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences, where I completed my Ph.D. in Medical and Health Professionals Education, concentrating on Contemporary Human Anatomy Education. My dissertation centered on increasing inclusive teaching practices to support a diverse student body.
