Alexander S. R. Macnow, M.D., M.H.P.E. is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Education at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, teaching broadly across gross anatomy, microanatomy, and neuroanatomy. He is also the Pathology Thread Director at SKMC. He is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.
Dr. Macnow completed a Master’s of Health Professions Education (M.H.P.E.) program through Keele University in 2024, with a subspecialization in accreditation and assessment. His thesis, entitled "An Investigation of Large Language Model ChatGPT as an Author of USMLE-Style Practice Questions" explored the abilities of artificial intelligence to generate multiple-choice questions similar to those encountered by medical students on their certification examinations, and the performance characteristics of these questions when delivered to medical students.
Additional research interests include leveraging technology in anatomy and pathology education; accessibility in medical education, with a specific focus on color vision deficiency (CVD/color-blindness); instructional design, content development, teaching and learning sciences and pedagogy; assessment design and psychometrics; and study skills, standardized testing, and test preparation, including the MCAT and USMLE examinations.
